Due to the recents of out last 'adventure', I've given the crew time off for shore leave. Many are spending it with loved ones they haven't seen in months. Family can be more important than it seems when you're months, perhaps years away out in the vastness of space.
Commander Sonak has taken this time to spend on New Vulcan, to participate in a mourning ceremony of the loss of their former homeworld. Knowing alittle of Vulcan rituals, it's easy to understand his view and respect his personal choices.
Lt. Marcus has requested transfer off the Exeter. It's clear recent events have shook Gabriel to his core and he wishes to serve Starfleet in a different way. Perhaps a posting with the Corps. of Engineers with Mars planitia would suit him better? If it's comforting, he'd be closer to his little boy. But in Gabriel's absence, Starfleet have given us a new engineer named Amaan Ragez to take former Lt. Marcus' place. I hope Mr. Ragez will fel at home aboard Exeter.
The rest of the senior staff have decided to vacation with me on the planet Risa for a few days. We had a good weekend together sailing out on the family catamaran. Needless to say, LTCMDR Paris' navigational skills are eamplary at sea as well as out in space.
...and I think Dr. Emangu has ben giving me strange looks.
Lt. Young seems to b holding up well, in spite of everything. Although she keeps to herself and her circle of friends aboard the ship seem small at best. Still, it's comforting having her aboard as well, even seeing her come to Risa was a pleasant surprise.
I know I should be concentrating on other matters, like the upcoming Reunification treaty, along with with the Treaty of Algeron signing and overseeing the repairs to the Exeter. But right now I want to enjoy life away from th uniform and the duties. It seems it's been forever since I've seen waters as clear and lovely as Risa.
